Just done some reading and learnt the Linn streamers are basically intergrated amps, with dac and streamer built in.. I hope I read it right. Makes sence as one can avoid the s/pdif interface streaming directly to a dac. So were you listening to the analogue outs of the SBT vs analogue outs of the Linn?
