"Blind" doesn't refer to avoiding the visual sense. It's about
evaluating things based on a limited set of criteria.

For example, televisions can be blind tested by covering up all but the
display panel so that the viewer doesn't know which unit is being
viewed. This way, the only possible criteria used for evaluation will
be picture quality (not, for example, psychological bias about brand
names).

MCR knows all of this I reckon - and the fact he wants us to explain it
must be mean he is actually in favour of blind testing? He-he!
