I prefer to just mention this problem in aufs documentation, so people will 'stat' a fuse-based filesystem's mountpoint before adding it as aufs branch. I don't understand whether FUSE does the right think or AUFS does it the right way, nevertheless I prefer to keep aufs code clean, that means, don't implement any workarounds for special filesystems.
