John, From memory the Jantar 3 has a different airfoil to the 2. Re, re-profiling the wings. If you have a lot of time and patience you will improve the performance, but be very careful or you might make things worse. The leading edge is the most important, followed by the spar area. Aft of the spar is not too important. Yes, winglets do improve performance by reducing the drag at the wingtips. There is a book around that covers both winglets and profiling of wings. I think it is called "Perfomance Enhancement" or something similar. I did have a copy but it eludes me at the moment.  Cheers, Ron Baker.

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Questions

Could anybody please tell me if there is a difference in performance between the Stanard Jantar 2 and 3?
Do winglets really make a difference?
Is it worth [ performance wise ] recontouring the wings of an old sailplane?
Regards
John Shuttleworth.
