The Pipistrel Taurus certainly looks to be an interesting aircraft. However the Sinus, Virus and Taurus are designed to an ultralight spec. I have heard that there were difficulties trying to get the Sinus / Virus certified as motorgliders through the GFA (as opposed to certified as ultralights). Apparently the GFA only accepts aircraft designed to JAR-22. There were some pretty big weight and speed limitations imposed on the Sinus / Virus if they were to be registered as motorgliders under GFA. (I may of heard wrong here).
Anyone know any details? I've yet to get hold of Michael Coates to ask him what the story was and ask whether the Taurus would ever be redesigned to meet JAR-22. I'd certainly be interested if it was. Perhaps even a kit for a non-self launching version.
