Hello all,
This discussion appears to be going along the lines of flying by numbers and
coming up with so called fixes.
Fly safely and be smart. The opposite side of a thermal is approx 200'.
Thats close enough, unless you have an exemption to fly closer, formation
display flying. The paper work for the formation flying for the Kookaburra
Precision Soaring Team is almost through. Now all we need is 3 tugs so we
can arrive at the same spot together. Then again, I wonder how a Pawnee will
go with a triple tow? (settle)
What can you do?? May I suggest people consider watching those Magnificent
Men in Their Flying Machines, particularly the German entrant." Ze book sayz
zis iz how itz dun, so, anyone can fly zis flying machine ...ja!"
That may put a different perspective on the direction of this discussion.

I've known its 200ft since forever, I guess I had good instructors, but--
What does 200ft look like glider to glider in the air?
Closer than you look: A wingspan isn't much off 50', so think about
four wingspans. Uncomfortably close, if you ask me.
