Our older son Michael is doing the whole aerotow at 12 :) I was so
proud to tow him and see him rock steady in the mirror. We are not
pushing him to fly though. If he wants to do it he has to ask and
organise it. (and he does - costs me money!)
Look out Juniors - when he's old enough :)
Maybe we need to dig out that old AG when he was born and Bev
Matthews wrote an article about his development in gliding :)

I should have written a one week (go for solo) course.
There is no average.
Some people have the knack and learn quickly, especially
teenagers. (Our record is 17 flights for a 15yr old). Others start
the course from scratch, others start with some experience but have
not got over the pre-solo "hump".

After an instructing session with a student pilot on a weeks
course, and if the pilot is not progressing as much as one would
expect with them getting bogged down in getting their circuits and
landings up to scratch, I take them up for a passenger flight at
my expense.
I give them some chandelles and steep turns in thermals and always
ending with a steep approach and ground effect just to get some
fun back into their flying and to show them how versatile the
Blanik is.
