Hi All,
Re the new "Oz Gliding" magazine: {Now there is a potential new name , but
why would you bother - see my earlier post.}
I know that John Roake of NZ is a subscriber to this forum, and is of course
THE MAN behind the excellent "Soaring International" Magazine.
For newer members, let me note that John has been (and still is), a driving
force in the NZ gliding scene. "Gliding Kiwi" is just one of his creations.
John, are you prepared to offer any constructive advice (either on or off
line), to the yet unknown Australian Gliding Magazine Steering Committee?
As I understand the initial concept, it is proposed to generally model the new
Australian mag on the British "Gliding" Mag, so whilst there might be some
overlap of material, generally speaking, there should be minimal conflict here
with GI. Possibly there could be some sharing of material as occurred in
"Australian Gliding/Gliding Kiwi" days?
Regular club information is part of the proposed format. Of course "somebody"
at your club has to write it, preferably on an ongoing basis.
Articles on a specific topic are sought. It is proposed to try and "theme"
particular issues - this depends on YOUR contributions. Hey, let me say that
again: This depends on YOUR contributions.
Do you believe in fairies in the bottom of your garden who can grant your every
wish? I don't. Therefore in my opinion Anne Elliot attempted the impossible in
producing the gliding segment of "Soaring Australia". God knows how many
(thankless?), hours you put in Annie, and always there was that deadline to
meet. Let me say you have done a great job , under difficult circumstances.
I intend to write an article on importing a glider from the USA: Be warned -
there are many traps here for those who do not do their homework.
To put names to faces, let me say that Maurice Little is the co-coordinator of
this project. Maurice is a member of my club (Grampians Soaring Club - BTW,
pop along next week if you would like to participate in the VSA State
Championships which GSC is hosting - you will be made very welcome ). Maurice
needs YOUR ongoing help to make this project a success.
Gary
