I've used an iPhone in my glider all over Australia from SA to NT in
all temperatures as a camera and with OzRunways and never had a
failure.

However, the point is to have the thing in the glider as a phone for
emergencies rather than use it as a nav device. That being said, as a
backup GPS and for the very occasional use of OzRunways, it's fine.
As a camera, the later iPhones are probably the best camera you can
get for a glider cockpit.

I also believe that the reports of shutting down at high temps are a
bit of a beat-up. Not that they don't shut down, but the actual
temperature whilst flying rarely get that high.
