OK if you REALLY want the Dr Sheldon Cooper explanation:

I used an imprecise generalisation. If the bell curve of "sensibility" has a peak in a different place for men and women and the one for men is at the lower sensibility value, fewer women than men will go gliding even though the curves overlap. :-)

I note there are very few women who fly R/C models too. Far fewer than in gliding in my experience.
