I am sure there are many ways it could be solved. That is one,
if we are willing to risk someone interpreting that as allowing
pathname expansion to also produce no fields.

No problem. It looks like this issue might be skipped next week
anyway, in which case I need go look further ahead to what might
replace it, just in case.
