We use it regularly for italian translation of user guides and it's a really useful tool for a straight workflow and for keeping translation quality at an acceptable level (through translation memories and glossaries). I suggest to install always the latest version downloaded from the website as there are a lot of improvements that are not into old versions you find into your distro repositories. Also beta versions don't seems to have stability problems. For OmegaT there are also some interesting plugins that add useful functions like spellchecker and similar...
