Subject: Re: [authors] Writer Guide Chapters Query

Hi Jean,

I have finished reviewing the WG Ch1 (Intorducing Writer) and uploaded it to
the feedback folder (
http://www.oooauthors.org/english/userguide3/writer3/feedback).

There is one major change I am proposing, which would be to remove the
'Starting Writer' section and then move the 'Starting a new document'
and 'Opening an existing document' sections to replace it. The aim to remove
a long section that most users will already know and replace it with the
more practical sections (which cover much of the same details). The moved
sections would need a bit of work, but this would be making them more
similare to the same section in the GS Calc and CG Introducing calc chapters
- and I would be happy to do this. I have left comments explaing all of this
in the document. Let me know what you think.

In addition to the above, I have updated quite alot of the pictures and made
a few changes to the text, as before these are shown by the Record
Changes option.

As far as I can tell, the updates to 3.3 do not change the content of this
chapter and the print info isnt actually covered in this document.

Regards,
Joe

We only need the first portion of that section, (from "Starting Writer" through
the end of the first paragraph, with a reference (beginning at "Note for Mac
users") pointing to the Index, as you suggest. It doesn't matter how many
readers will know how to open the application, there are always the newbies who
have just bought a computer and suddenly realize they have to have some more
software to go with it. They're the ones we don't wish to lose, and if we "hold
their hands" a little bit, we have them hooked.

No matter how they come by OpenOffice or LibreOffice <OOo or LibO>, they need
that initial "boost" to get started.
