Well, in a perfect world I just uploaded a new version with my changes
done with change tracking.
Unclear it it worked or not. Seems to be waiting review, or similar.

The way I deal with this in other places, such as the chapter on
templates, is to tell the reader to look in Tools> Options> OOo>
Paths to find out what the path is. I realise that "Basic" is not one of
the items listed there, but we should be able to say something similar
about finding that directory.

My primary concern is that Windows 7, Windows XP, and Linux all use
very different paths as to where things are stored (and I have no idea
where Mac versions store things, and the different flavors are simply on
their own.) . Linux users can generally sort things out.
That said, your changes look fine in context, and, the other issue we
should likely treat uniformly across documents. So, what other documents
discuss storage locations? Perhaps we can simply label this an advanced
topic or enumerate the possibilities. For example:
Linux, start from the user directory, so the structure is
~/.openoffice.org/3/user
Windows I cannot verify at the moment (I am on a Linux box)
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Application Data. User
macros are stored in OpenOffice.org\3\user\
Windows 7: C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice.org\3\user\
No idea about Mac. Thoughts?

Thanks, Andrew. That's more good news. Meanwhile, I found three places
that referred to OOo2.x and changed them. One was a generic statement
that I think is no longer needed and the others were paths
with .openoffice.org2.0/ in them, which I believe should now
be .openoffice.org/3/ -- you might like to check the chapter to make
sure I got it right in context. I used change tracking so you can find
them quickly.

Andrew, Do you know of any OOov3.3 changes that affect the GS with
