TC Yasi is now likely to cross the coast south of Cairns, not here in Townsville (unless it changes course), but we are still in line for "strong gale force winds" -- better than "destructive winds" or "very destructive winds". Winds expected to start tomorrow morning and continue for 18 hours or so. Heavy rain likely, too, of course.
This is not going to stop my partner Eric from holding his birthday party in the village's restaurant/bar at lunchtime tomorrow, though the bar will close at 1:30PM to batten down & prepare for likely electricity outages. Our neighbours here are mostly locals, veterans of many cyclones, so they know how to be prepared but not get too worried. (And have a good stock of macabre jokes to share.) We are some distance from the storm surge area, and the storm is now expected at low tide instead of high tide. Needless to say, documentation is not high on my list of things to think about right now. ;-) Cheers, Jean --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
