Hello Sigrid,

I don't want to impose rules on the Germaphone project. I'm happy to tell you the rules we have in the English guides, but you can choose different rules.

Our rules are:

Different chapters can use different screenshots. But EACH chapter should only have one set of screenshots. So for example:

  * Styles chapter ---> Unix screenshots.
  * Master documents ---> Win XP screenshots.

You get the idea. Each chapter is consistent within itself. But different chapters can be different.

You see, we want consistency, but each volunteer has a different system. So our solution is somewhere in the middle. It has good advantages:

1) Each chapter is consistent. That's the most important.

2) It's not hard to do. Each chapter has one maintainer right? The maintainer simply takes screenshots from whatever system they have.

So, if I have Solaris, and I maintain the styles chapter, then I decide to put Solaris screenshots on the styles chapter. Jean has Windows, so she puts Windows screenshots on her chapter.

Once again, you don't have to do it the same way we do. I'm just telling you what we decided. We are happy with this system. :-)

Cheers,
Daniel.

Hello @ all,

I have the following question: Exist there any rules, how the screenshots in the documentation have to look alike? In many documents, the screenshots are made under Windows XP (perhaps, it looks like) ;)

In our german translation we want to add localized screenshots, but we do not all have WinXP, for example, I have Linux with a gnome desktop, others have Linux with KDE-desktop.

Is it ok with this different styles, or do we have to change to the WinXP-theme?

Thanks for your answers.

Sigrid

I have downloaded a chapter, Styles Reference, but could not mark it as being downloaded, but not too worry, will not up load it until I downolad it properly.
One of the questions that I have pertains to the screen shots. (The others I shall formulate and post later)

So within a chapter the screen shots (SS) are to be from the same OS and look the same.
My question is, is there a suggestion on where the SS should be placed in relation to the text describing it?
I realize that this might be picky but just would like to know.
That is in the section on Alignment Tab the SS is near to the end.
and in the section on Text Flow tab the SS is near to the beginning.

I find that when the SS is near to (not right at) the beginning, I tend to understand the text easier, but that is just me.

The question is, is there any suggestions on where the SS should be placed?

Chris
