I can work on the Chapter 3 that you mentioned (Creating Formulas and Using Functions). I feel reasonably well versed in these topics... .... I'm assuming that Chapter 3 needs to be started from scratch, but please confirm.
I believe Rick Barnes has been working on that chapter, but I don't know how much he has done. I hope Rick will see these notes and reply soon.
Also, not that I'm looking for more work, but I'm maintainer of the chapter in the Migration Guide on differences in use, Calc vs Excel. It was based on a slightly older version than we're on now (I think it was either 2.0 or 2.0.1). I'm not aware of anything that has happened in the intervening versions that would necessitate an update in the chapter, but I was wondering what the normal procedure was for when a chapter needed to be verified with a new version.
Maintainers are supposed to keep an eye on the changes in each point release and take the initiative to update their chapters as needed. Unfortunately, this rarely happens, due to too few of us trying to maintain too many chapters as well as writing new ones. Of course, anyone who notices a change in the program (that needs to be reflected in the documentation) can make changes in a chapter and put it up for review... in fact, I encourage people to do just that. Then the maintainer can review what the reviewer did.
If the changes are minor, maintainers could just make those changes and republish the chapter (and tell the list). For changes requiring more substantive rewrites or addition of new material, if the maintainers make the changes, they should put the revised chapters up for review by someone else.
