I was using "ant", which I believe is equivalent to
"ant build.xml".

I see the jars but apparently ant build does not. I
tried "ant xdoclet" and got same error again:

..."/build.xml:192: taskdef class
org.apache.avalon.phoenix.tools.xdoclet.PhoenixXDoclet
cannot be found"

It looks like my setup differs from yours in some
crucial way. Maybe your build is looking at a
different phoenix-client.jar than you think?

You said that you "updated your tree"? Do I have to
download all the sub-groups into same directory in
order to get build to work for cornerstone? I only
retrieved jakarta-avalon-cornerstone not all
jakarta-avalon-***

Note: I am using NT4 and downloaded from cvs using
jCVS.

( side-question: is there some way to suppress the
download of the /CVS directories?? It would cut down
on the clutter. )

Thanks for your feedback.
I am going to be distracted for a day or two, so I
won't be able to get back to this subject for a while.
So, no hurry on your responding.

Thanks and Regards, Jim
