1) I think we have differing views on open source development.
If I don't want someone changing my  code, putting it on the
Apache CVS server is about the last thing I'd do.

2) Where is the disrespect? As you say: "We are supposed to wait
six months vefore promoting the person to committer status. We
should know the character, maturity, wit of a person by then."
If a person has passed that test, why assume disrespect?

It would seem to me to be more like conformity, not community.
