Dear Sir,

I know you are very busy, but please don't send this message to trash and
try to give me a hand of help... I am at one step to see my dream realized,
and believe me, I have read your FAQs and hints...

My name is Cezar Werner and I am one of the enthuziasts that want to
show to his friends and to the rest of the people (in general) that
there are also another options out of Windoze. Hi.

Until few days ago I used Slackware 7.0. But for comodity reasons,
I am testing now RedHat 7.0, that I installed on another hard drive.

One of my targets are the media playing. I want to see a universal media
player for Linux, as well as we all are looking at the Ms-Win media player.
Or, at least, a Linux media player built specially for video streams,
capable to play normal and DivX .avi, mov, and another video formats.

After I have tried xmms, xmps, videolan client (vlc),xanim, xine and mplayer
without any obvious decent success, I have found (at last!!) your (great!)
AVIPLAYer.

I have been very happy when I saw, after I have compiled aviplay, my
favourite (and for the moment, the single one!) film playing: The MATRIX.

The problems:
=================

- Unfortunatelly, it is playing only the video stream, because when I am
launching OSS and start playing again, the aviplayer is opening the media,
but is not playing anything;

- When aviplayer is trying to play the file with OSS active (soundon),
the movie window is appearing, but nothing else is happening; however, if
I am clicking on the PLAY button of the aviplayer, the movie will be played
from second to second, for the each of my clicks.
For example, I am opening MATRIX.AVI, the movie window will appear and
I am skating the scroll bar to the 1:36:00 time mark; there I am pressing
the PLAY button, and the movie will be played for a second (1:36:01). If
I will press the PLAY again, all will be repeated.
HOWEVER, no sound is hearing, although the mp3 normal files could be played
with, let's to say, mpg123 or X11Amp.

- Also when the OSS is active, if I am trying to close the aviplayer or any
of it's windows, this will not be possible until I'll kill manually the
proccess (killall -9 aviplay).

That's my problems.

Well, I must say some words about what hardware I have and what I've
done:

1)
VIA MVP3 2xISA 3xPCI 1xAGP ** AMD K6-2/400 MHz ** 128 Mb SDRAM / 10ns
8.4 Gb UDMA 66 Fujitsu HDD ** RIVA-TNT2 Vanta 8Mb 3D Accelerator / AGP
** Yamaha 724 PCI soundcard
- The AMD K6-2 have MMX and 3DNow technologies.

2)
Operating system: Linux RedHat 7.0
kernel : 2.2.16-22 (non-smp)
SDL : 1.2.0 (installed from rpm, also with devel.)
SMPEG : 0.4.3 (installed from rpm)
3D : NVIDIA_GLX-1.0 from www.nvidia.com, for 2.2.16-22 kernel
(I am _not_ getting "no hardware acceleration detected)
XFree86 : 4.0.1
GUI environment : KDE 1
qtlibs : qt-2.2.0
gcc : 2.96
------------------
avifile : 0.53.5.tar.gz (compiled by me)
win32s : binaries-010122.zip (1903024 bytes)
                (installed in /usr/lib/win32)

3) I've tried to run with the kernel native modules for YMF724, with the
same results. I've tried to install ALSA without any success, so I abandoned
and migrate to OSS (I also have a crack for OSS).

Well, this is it. I hope that you will not consider my letter as a novel,
but I tried to be as specific as I can, in order to explain you my problems.

If you have any ideea about how can I debug this, I will be grateful.

Remember, I am not joking, your AVIPLAYER is the _only one_ that have been
capable to work fine with DivX - the rest of the other players have many
many bugs...

In the hope of a positive answer, please allow me to thank you very much for
your attention and for the time.

Have a nice week-end,

Your sincerely,

Cezar Werner
