Hmm I'm a bit confused here - what is the connection between the
'starting engine...' & aviplay ?
Also could you send a gdb backtrace of where the fault happend -
there are several locations which could cause this.
If you have some fresh kernel
gdb path_to_aviplay core.xxxxx
