As I've nothing common with this old code I could only advice this way:


instead of  make install  use

make prefix=/tmp/avi install

then you will see where 'most' of the files were installed.
By 'most' I mean the there are probably files which do not respect
prefix variable so it might be a bit more problematic to locate them.

But avifile shouldn't install anything outside of  
/usr/local/lib     (library  libaviplay.so.* )
/usr/local/lib/avifile  (everything)
/usr/local/share/doc/avifile (everything)

I'm not sure about other locations
