Thank you Michael, yes, that is the app. Been a lot of challenges, but I am
happy to say, usually Away3D is a pleasure, not a challenge. It's
performance has been surprisingly good considering I have to compete with
C++ programs that have DirectX and OpenGL libraries, LOL. Right now it is
within a factor of 2 or 3x of them and I am confident that Molehill will
close the remaining gap and then some. It will be very cool to see a Flex +
Away3D program keeping up performance-wise with that sort of company.

The biggest challenges in using Flash/AIR/Flex for the project have actually
been in two areas. First, the app is essentially an IDE for a language (CNC
g-code language) where I have to build the virtual machine and it has to be
highly configurable because every machine has a slightly different g-code
dialect. Learning to build reasonably fast compiler/interpreter in Flex for
a complex language was fun. The other was the building an IDE-style editor
for text files that could be many megabytes long. Just loading that into a
TextArea doesn't work so well! So I had to build a fancy paged TextArea
class to support all the editing on large files as well as all the editing
commands that go with a decent programmer's editor. That's also been fun.

Lastly, it's been quite interesting to build the "FatSaaS" infrastructure to
make it easy to charge for the software, authenticate, provision, and all
the rest of the SaaSy things with absolutely minimal server side resources.

I will put some sample g-code files accessible from that home page so
non-CNC peeps can load them up and check out the program a little bit.
Kinda hard to make it do much if you don't know g-code otherwise, LOL!

Best,

BW
