Hey group,

I really really really love awesome, but the issues with Java are kind of annoying :(

I tried to use TheBrain [1] and it does not work. When creating a new node, a new windows appears in which you can enter the node's name. When pressing 'Ok', the node is created and the window is closed (i.e. the window is not visible any longer). Though in the taskbar (in my case at the top) the window is still indicated as being present/open/not closed/still existing, whatever you will call it. I hope it is clear what I mean. To summarize: the actual window disappears, the indicator in the taskbar for that window stays.

If I want to add another node, TheBrain will have trouble creating the new window (to enter the name of the new node) and I cannot do anything. When switching to another tag and back the window is created again (to enter the new node's name) though when trying to close the window, the same issue as described before occurs. In the end there is nothing I can do besides closing the application. I assume it is an awesome problem since everything works fine with the same user running the Ubuntu Desktop (I think the WM is Compiz).

Here some details to awesome and java:

awesome -v
awesome v3.4.5 (Close To You)
• Build: May 18 2010 07:31:12 for x86_64 by gcc version 4.4.4 (buildd@yellow)
 • D-Bus support: ✔

java -version
java version "1.6.0_22"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_22-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.1-b03, mixed mode)

Running on Ubuntu Maverick 64bit.

Can anyone reproduce what is happening to me? Does TheBrain work for anybody else?

Thanks for your help! I really hope this can be fixed!

Torsten
