I am not an expert in master planning or much into programming of axapta these days but eveyrthing you mention is correct...MBS did make some note that BOM levels might get missed or not calculated correctly etc but I am not sure if anything has been done on this since they made that statement.
I know Harry in this group has a lot of insight into the master planning so maybe he can give his ideas and knowledge. This problem of the performance of master planning I think is a general problem for a lot of sites.... "So it will go through 40,000 items even though only 1,000 will be shown in the results of the master plan." For howing the results, master plan is scanning for all item codes. This is a question for tecnical purpose, because one of our customer with this scenerio ran mp and it ran for 3days. And they have performance problems for the other users for other transactions so that they need to interrup mp. We don't want to give item number criteria, because once upon a time (at about 2 years ago), I got a response from MBS that, "...-This brings us to the conclusion - running a total master scheduling (no items selected) will read the on-hand information for each item, when its handled by the master scheduling. -Running a master scheduling for one item (bom) will only reread the on-hand information for that item and not the components..." so that I cannot be sure, if I should say to my customer that they should use item no criteria, or not. Hope to be clear.. Best regards, Gloria James Flavell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hi If I understand what oyu are asking The master planning will always run through ALL the item master records (if you did not filter the item master selection). So it will go through 40,000 items even though only 1,000 will be shown in the results of the master plan. I believe that is how technically the code is running but it would be good to have someone confirm this Thanks James -----Original Message----- From: Axapta-Knowledge-Village@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of SenthilKumar.B - Functional Consultant (Enterprise Solutions Practice) - SIS Sent: 24 March 2006 12:56 To: Axapta-Knowledge-Village@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Master Planning If u want to plan it only for the zz warehouse as in ur case and u dont want to take the stock that are in the other warehouses, then it will plan only for the zz warehouse if u run only for the zz warehouse. The answer for ur question is it'll plan only for the 1000 item codes. The order for the master planning depends on the criteria wat u select, The order wat MP takes is a) Item coverage b) Cov group c) Master pl parameters Regards -----Original Message----- From: Axapta-Knowledge-Village@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Gloria Sun Sent: Thursday, March 23, 2006 7:56 PM To: Axapta-Knowledge-Village@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Master Planning Hi all, I have 40 000 item codes for my item table and all have lots of transactions for different warehouses. I work with including warehouse dimension to the coverage, and exclude some warehouses from my master planning. I have the warehouses aa, bb, cc, dd, xx, yy, zz , and only 1000 item codes have transactions on warehouse zz. if I exclude all the warehouses and run mp just for zz for all item codes, does master planning scans for all items, or looks for just 1000 items needs?? More clearly, what is the order of the master planning? items or warehouses? Kind regards, Gloria --------------------------------- New Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.
