I think the preference is very much a cultural issue. SAP is based on extremely many templates, from which the system is configured. SAP-R3 can be configured based o more than 7.000 templates categorised in so many different businesses.
Based on my little knowledge, I think SAP has a very strong concept for firms who wants to adapt to other businesses "best practice" processes. On the contrary, here in Denmark, I think the time is running i the Ax way of customizing the system. Here we are primarily talking about small extremely adaptable firms, who often wants full control over the business and informationsystem.
