In some ways, it is an issue of control, I agree. But I've done SAP, currently
doing AX, and I don't think I've seen anything u couldn't generally
(programming) do in one system versus the other other than the following: In
SAP, you can't be a carwash business day one and a cake maker day two. In AX
you can,
but on day three you'll be washing cakes! :)

The SAP templates are a general reference, lots of wriggle room. I think you
have to ask yourself if no one else is doing something, is it a very good
idea....or a very bad one. Business procedures are pretty well documented
worldwide I think, results really depend on the talent in the company and how
it's used, not software.

As far as small firms go, it depends on money and inclination...some businesses
want to concentrate on business and treat the software like it's automatic,
some like to play with the software until they run out of money or business or
the attention shifts.

Don't think I've ever seen a situation where a particular erp software was a
major factor in the success or the failure of a business, too many other
factors more immediate.

I know lots of people kid themselves that their current business practices are
always the best fit, but experience would surprise most of them.

To summarize, I would say that client total control over a total lack of
control describes AX, and that supplier total control over supplier total
control describes SAP. :)

Pick your poison :)

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Re: Axapta vs SAP

I think the preference is very much a cultural issue. SAP is based
on extremely many templates, from which the system is configured.
SAP-R3 can be configured based o more than 7.000 templates
categorised in so many different businesses.

Based on my little knowledge, I think SAP has a very strong concept
for firms who wants to adapt to other businesses "best practice"
processes.

On the contrary, here in Denmark, I think the time is running i the
Ax way of customizing the system. Here we are primarily talking
about small extremely adaptable firms, who often wants full control
over the business and informationsystem.

Best regards
Lars

much less responsive, due to customization every customer has unique

think Axapta is too flexible and SAP is too inflexible, but if it
were my business and all things were equal, I'd go with SAP, not
being a fan of 'unique' (usually meaning 'crazy') business
processes. The very inflexibilty of the software actually
discourages knee-jerk reactions, allows some evaluation time.

I am wrong on this one but as far as I know SAP does not have the
high level of flexibility for customization that Dynamics AX has and
from my reading and comparison the interface is not as intuitive for
the developer and user as Dynamics AX.

With Dynamics AX, if you have an idea you have an "opportunity" .
