AX uses AD for authentication - while you have AX installed on your laptop, your laptop is not the domain controller - hence not the authenticating server. When you log into the domain, your laptop is authenticating to the domain controller - AX senses the log in and you have access. When you unplug - you have disconnected from the network AX loses its place.
The only way you can work on your laptop is to install Active Directory on your local install of Win Server 2008 and put it on a totally new domain. Do not install then try and connect to your normal domain as you will raise more issues across the network. You may have to reinstall or repair your AOS install after this.
