I agree with Lew Volk's advice (below). We have less transactions but more
users. Our DB was initially 10GB after bringing in some history and customers
and vendors, etc. After three years on Ax and many upgrades and customizations
(upgraded from 3.0 to 4.0, we brought more companies into AX, and we are
constantly bringing up more modules and customizing AX), the DB has grown to
35GB.

We started out with 2 channels and a 500GB SAN. We placed non-production
environments on the same box as the PROD DB and did the same with the AOS's
(non-prod AOS's on the same box as the PROD AOS's). That turned out to be a
HUGE mistake.

I highly recommend following the ax performance teams' recommended database
setup at:
http://blogs.msdn.com/axperf/archive/2009/06/23/minor-changes-in-database-configuration-recommendations-for-dynamics-ax.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/axperf/archive/2008/03/10/welcome-database-configuration-checklist-part-1.aspx

and
http://blogs.msdn.com/axperf/archive/2008/03/13/ax-database-configuration-checklist-part-2.aspx

Although AX2009 does not have the same AOS problems as AX40, I would look for a
white paper for AX2009 AOS setup. MS produced a white paper called "How to
Improve Stability of the AOS for Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0" on 11/17/2007. I
would assume many of the principles still apply in AX2009 (such as keeping PROD
AOS separate from non-propd).

Good luck,
Mike

Udi, I'm no expert, but since no one else as replied....here's my $.02. We are
implementing AX in about the same size company. I was told by several sources
you 3 channels for SQL. So,we went with a small san. This gave the three
channels &, redundancy. We set up 120GB for the go live company and 500gb for
test & development companies

We are about to implement AX2009. I'd to get some input about hardware from
someone other than are vendor. Their first thought is to use a san's....seems
like alittle over kill for us.

- Can anyone give me guide lines or a link to amount of hard drive space need
on the SQL server.
- Also any thoughts on the hardware it self. Mostly as it relates to all the
channels need for SQL.

We have 40 local users and starting with 25 for the web portal. Two location
connected by a T1 line. We'll have about 300,000 trans action the first year.
Growing by about 10% a year.
