Hi Alan:
We asked a couple of weeks ago whether we should shut down the reminder
and got several votes to shut it down and several to keep it going. As
there wasn't a solid consensus, I haven't made any modifications to the
auto-reminder (except to fix the time instead of toggling it, since that
seems to be working well for Synapse).
If the team wants (i.e. VOTEs) to shut it down and only announce chats
for particular issues, that's fine by me, although I rather like the
idea that there is a time each week when you can at least expect a
greater likelihood of running into people on IRC.
We could also compromise somewhat by canning the autoreminder but
indicating on the project web page that people tend to hang out on
#apache-axis on Wednesdays, though it's informal. Of course, any
substantive technical discussion would be logged and posted to the
mailing list as usual.
Thoughts?

The 2006-07-05 meeting did not happen, Furthermore, the project lead failed to
override the reminder. If the default is to be that the automatic reminder goes
out, then an ideal project lead would either attend or override. If the default
is to be that the automatic reminder does not go out, then an ideal project lead
would announce only those developer chats that he/she has reason to believe will
occur.
What does the Project Management Committee choose to do about this?
