Well, I dunno. I just wanted to explain the answer given to previously. Anyway, you are scaring me. I'm just doing some stuff with Axis, which is pretty performance-critical. With Beta 1 I did some benchmarking myself, but the result was not so bad. I measured well below 1 second. Around 1-5 millisec, if I remember it well. It was just a simple return-some-string example. I can't image what could be wrong with your setup, sorry. :( I just hope that my measurement is closer to the real truth, otherwise we're in deep sh@t. :)
