Looks ok to me. Not sure whether Safari sends the Accept-Encoding input header, though. Seem to recall that it didn't when I last looked at that some two months ago.
Just checked and it's indeed broken in Safari 1.1. You're right, though, anything less doesn't send the Accept-Encoding header so it won't break...
I'm going to try out the CVS update tomorrow and will let the group know my results. Sounds promising anyway.
