In one instance pertaining to my family, my great grandmother was born in
New Bedford but her birth record can't be found in Vital Records Search or
NEHGS under the surname Morris or various spelllings of., but my cousin did
find her information at the church (no mention of King to my knowledge). I
did find a record on NEHGS for a Mary King shown born in the same town, same
dob, same first names of parents and same place of birth for the parents
(Azores). The only difference is that her mother's surname is shown as King
and the only surname I know for her was Antonio/a.

Still haven't found ship records or immigration record for her parents so
I'm wondering now if I should also be looking under the surname King as well
as Rei/Rey?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,
Michelle

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Surname King

Have found the surname "King" being used for many Portuguese and was
wondering if this is a name they may have started using when they
first arrived until they decided on which surname they were going to
use? It doesn't sound like a Portuguese surname to me so was hoping
someone had an explanation.

Thank you,
Michelle
