Mahalo Iris That does help. It gives me an approximate year of birth for Luiz and Jose. I haven't been able yet to find Luiz on any census and I didn't know that Jose existed before two days ago. Do you know if that would that be the island of Ohau where they arrived? According to Roza's death cert and the info from one of the census' she immigrated somewhere between 1880 and 1885 with her husband and at least one son. She was born Jan 1859 and her son was born Aug 1878. I don't know any dates for Luiz. It's PA (Pa) for Papers filed, NA (Na) for Naturalized, and AL (Al) for Alien. Can you say where you found your ancestor on the 1930 so another pair of eyes can take a look?
