Dear Adair,
My records are limited to what I have found on websites and what I was told
which is not much. I have been searching but there are so many with similar
names.

My great grandmother Arminda Aurora Luiz(s)went through Ellis Island. She
married Jorge Faustino da Silva in the Azores. Sao Jorge, Calheta, Santa
Catherines(?) in 1906, then she came to America. I have not found the records
for Jorge, just his citizenship in Calif. It is under George F Silva in San
Rafael, Ca
My Grandfather, George Faustine Silva was born on Feb 24, 1909 in San Rafael,
Ca. He was a logger above Sonora before becoming a janitor in the Valley. He
had a broken back from falling off the tank house as a kid.
Jorge (George) and Arminda eventually had a small dairy in the Merced area. If
I get that info correct according to my mom. She has talked about other
properties her Uncles had that are now gone. My mother, Evelyn, was baptized,
but the records burned, she had to find the 90 year old priest to confirm it.
That is on record in Chowchilla's Catholic Church. She was born in a barn on
the dairy.
My Great Uncle used to donate the beef for the Manteca Festa years ago. My mom
was raised in Manteca and Stockton and went to St. Mary's high school in
Stockton, Ca. I was born in Stockton, but I grew up in Porterville, Ca.
I was told there used to be a family gathering every year in Gustine. I have
old pictures of relatives but I don't know who they are. I never really talked
to Avo George about his family, never saw cousins. My mom has though. She says
we are related to Silva, Pimentel, Borba, Luis(z), Diaz. They are cousins she
says.
Now I have to put the puzzle together. Hopefully I can find some cousins I
don't know. I have been taking my Grandfather's siblings and trying to get that
info because it is all California. That is why I listed them.
I am starting to chip at the ancestral part that goes back to cousins in New
Bedford Mass and to the islands.
Thanks for the contact,
Robin Lebo
