I am 63 years old I am sorry but I don’t speak Portuguese, I have been struggling with Spanish for years! I just found out this last December that my grandfather was born on Faial on October 17 1888 I am trying to find any birth records for him I am planning to go to Faial soon, I want to stand where he stood. Maybe connect with distant cousins. I am really excited since my grandfather died when I was 16 years old and I never knew anything about his birthplace. Manuel Dias was the only name I knew him by. I was told his name was shortened at Ellis Island, I was told that maybe his name was Furtado and his mother maiden name was Dias I have searched many a database and can’t quite get a match. Do you know if Faial has birth records dating back to 1888 ?
