Hello Karen, I know very little about my great grandparents on my grandmother's side. Their last name was da Silva until they "americanized" it by dropping the 'da'. The California Death Index for my ggrandfather lists his fathers last name as 'da' Silva and his mothers as Demello. I do not know if either had any siblings. They moved to CA in April of 1913 on the SS Mongolia. The names of Manuel (b: 1870) & Maria's (b: 1873-1875) children from Sao Miguel are Maria, Ermelinda (aka Hilda), Maria Anjos (1910 census has her as Maria De Sourle Silva), Manuel (though he changed his name to Ralph and added the 'da' back to his last name), & Francisco.
