(Source: Paulo Drumond Braga, A Inquisição Nos Açores/The Inquisition in
the Azores, PHD thesis, 1996, Universidade Nova Lisboa, published by the
Cultural Institute of the Azores)
anyone know the origin of the name of "Porto Judeu" in terceira?
i have been referred to alexandre herculano but have not tracked down the
relevant passage.
manuel lopes d'azevedo paim
(ribeirinha, santa luzia pico), tavira, estramoz
ps, inquisition records in the torre de tombo national archives are also a
good source of information. i believe the first person burned at the stake
from the azores, a woman from sao miguel via Viseu was burned circa 1580.
(have to check my files re exact date)
