"Pure" isn't a good choice of words. I meant "stronger" or "more" Portuguese DNA by testing the older generations.

Rick said he does not know the count of how many Family Finder tests FTDNA has.  FTDNA does post their counts: http://goo.gl/UPPwE  However, Family Finder is not included yet because they are waiting for some number that approaches these other numbers. 

Doug told Amy to get the oldest relative to test as that relative's DNA is more "pure."  Let me clarify that, because Amy's DNA isn't tainted!

If Amy tests, she has 50% of her parents' DNA and 25% of her grandparents and 12.5% of her greats.  If her parents are alive, then she gets 100% of their DNA, 50% of her grands and 25% of her greats.  This is accomplished by testing one generation back.
