Hey John, I think the break through, if there is one, will be through 
someone who goes through the painstaking road of looking through the 
property records, and/or the wills. Not to diminish the fine works of 
Rodrigues, Canto, and others, but the truth is many of originate from 
simple peasant stock. and not connected to the big name families. RR 
himself stated that many people, despite the apparent well known names, 
were in fact of peasant origin and not related. I think we have to accept 
this. On the other hand, some names are so unique, like Curvelo, Simas, and 
a few others that they are most probably linked.
