Sometimes the parents came forward and acknowledged the child. This is sometimes recorded in the side margin of the baptism or in a separate book (legitimacoes). Many times though, they did not come forward. As the DNA study builds and more people find out how they connect, we'll be able to connect the incognito lines as well.
