Betty, I can't help much with the specifics of your family, but, I can help out 
with some general info on your question about the two families from which you 
descend. Rosa and Maciel (Marcial) are, obviously, different families. 
Different surnames = different histories. I'm not really certain of where the 
Azorian "Maciel" roots trace back to, but, Rosa is one of the oldest families 
in the Azores. The Rosa family in the Azores is of Flemish origin, and, dates 
back to Pieter Roos, who was an early settler. As is the custom in the Azores, 
"Pieter Roos"  was quickly "reimagined" to the Portuguese "Pedro da Rosa." Its 
especially common in the central group of islands (Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge, 
Graciosa, and Terceira) in the Azores. Good luck with your research...
