Hi Rosemarie,

I have many Silveira in my Sao Jorge lines....both mom's and dad's. My mom's
were always Silveira de Lemos until coming to the staes when they became just
Lemos. My dads fathers line were Silveira Leonardes and just Silveira. I still
feel like our connection is in the de Lemos line but since mine were from
Rosais and yours Norte Grande who knows....however, I recently found one of my
lines in Norte Grande....not de Lemos though, at least not apparently.

Nancy Jean,

I sympathize with you! I feel the same about the connections. I should have
tested my Mom too and now it's too late. The hard thing for me is that Kenneth
Silva is connected to me on my grandmother's side and also the grandfather's
side! double cousin but a generation off. He also is not really a Silva but a
Silveira! All of the brothers that came her chopped it down to Silva but in the
Old Country is really Silveira de Azevedo! Why did they do this, who knows but
it is making the trail so hard for us to follow!

Talk to you again soon, Prima!
Prima, Rosemarie

Hi Rosemarie,

I know exactly what you mean with the
frustration regarding good paper trails and can't find the connection!
Especially frustrating on the 2nd to 3rd cousin ones! I see clues in the
gedcoms
but nothing definitive....in truth I think it's right in front of my eyes but I
just don't know it due to our ancestral habit of adopting whatever name they
may
fancy at the time. I never knew my ggrandfather, Manuel Furtado Cardoso used
any
other name until looking at the baptisms of his children on CCA and discovering
that on one of them he used his fathers name of Silva.....which 2 of his
brothers used in the states although he never did. So many of my matches list
surnames that match mine....especially Cardoso, Silva, Gracia, Andrade, Castro
and on and on......I see the Veira name which is one of the names my brick wall
grandfather, Jose Enos used....along with 3 other surnames he
used!

My biggest regret with this DNA stuff is that I tested my own
MTDNA instead of my mothers......at the time I tested there wasn't any Family
Finder and I never thought I'd need moms......alas, now it's too late and I can
see it would have been a wealth of knowledge......it also would have proven or
disproven what I've come to suspect, that my mom and dad may have been distant
cousins without knowing it! There are so many shades of grey that would be
cleared up by that....at least I think they would. If they only had NO
interisland connection I could eliminate better...but all of mom's people were
from Sao Jorge EXCEPT her paternal grandmother who was from Pico and we think
was a Gracia.....so that gives her a potential Pico connection....all of dads
people were from Pico and Santa Maria EXCEPT his paternal grandfather who was
from Sao Jorge! Oh dear.......

Well, I'll never suffer from boredom
since they'll always be another mystery to search.

Also, I see you
are the contact for Kenneth Silva who shows up as 4th-remote on my Uncle John
Baptiste.....but not on me.....yet you show up on me as 5th -remote but not to
Uncle John.....

Best to you my cousin!

Nancy
Jean

Nancy Jean, I connect to Buzzie and Dennis Wilbert Silva too. So, this
would mean that we are 'in common with' each other and Fawn. If we could just
figure this out, so frustrating to have a large paper trail and still not
connect!

Hi Fawn,

I hope your father is
improving.

Both myself and my Uncle John Cardoza Baptiste match
Buzzie Mendonca.....he shows as 4th -remote match to me and 5th-remote to my
uncle.....I would have thought it would be just the opposite since Uncle John's
a generation earlier. I noticed you are the contact for Dennis Wilbert Silva
who
is a 4th-remote match to me but not to my uncle.

Best
regards,
Nancy Jean

A belated thank you to those who helped me with this. My father had a
stroke & I am in CA caring for him & my mother & I failed to thank
you for your help and ideas.

Mary & Nancy, my husband's uncle also had his DNA done for us & is
on the site as Buzzie Mendonca. My husband has a number of family lines
that link to Rosais and then the one to Norte Grande.

Thanks again,

I'm also watching this thread with interest since I have
connections to Rosais and Norte Grande. These witness names are similar to my
names. I haven't noticed a FF match though to others from here for me or my
uncle, John Baptiste.....except to Rosemarie as a 5th to
  remote.

It looks to me like the priest (Paulo Silveira
Bettencourt) baptized the child because they thought he might die. Witnesses
were (my guess) Jose de Souza Silveira Bettencourt and Joao Jose de
  Bettencourt.

I am interested since I have connections to Rosais and Norte Grande, plus
a DNA match (5th to remote cousin) between myself and your husband. But I
don't see an immediate connection to these people. :)

      Hi Everyone,

I'm having trouble understanding a baptism on the CCA site. It
is for Antonio, son of Joao Jacinto de Sigueira, native of Rosais &
Barbara Joaquina Rosa, native of Norte Grande, born on the 25th of May
      1834 & I think baptized on the 29th in the home. I don't know
what the rest says & google translate is absolutely no help on this
one. I see witnesses but no padrinhos. Did this child
die? I checked the obitos & could not find him. Why was he
baptized in the home? The baptism is on the top left of the
pg.

      Help! Please.

      Thanks,
      Fawn Silva
