Maria Natalia, Ernesto do Canto lived in the latter 1800s. He became interested in genealogy and created some indices for some freguesias on Sao Miguel island. When he created an index, he did not necessarily include all families either. He included prominent families or families that were important to him. Most of his indices were marriages, but he did a few baptisms too.
The Canto indices were not scanned and are not available on the CCA. You have to go to Sao Miguel to see them. When I've gone to Sao Miguel, I've typed up some of the indices that are in the freguesias I'm researching. The only one I have in its entirety is for Achada (marriages). I know a few other people have done the same thing.
