Al, I generally use http://google.translate.com , but occasionally use http://www.bing.com/translator/ when Google doesn't make sense. They all work differently and have individual strengths and weaknesses. Choose one as your "standard" just to get used to the functionality, but use the others when you need a few data points to help with your understanding of the translated text. Babblefish is still around (http://www.babelfish.com/), but I haven't used it in years. This one allows file translations in addition to online: http://www.freetranslation.com/ . Haven't used it myself. Also, I've found the Google Chrome browser to be very handy for translations. Simply visit a web site (like CCA) and Chrome will offer to translate the page (right hand side of the address bar). Very handy when browsing around Portuguese web sites.
