John,    Thanks for information you did send because I did not know about my
Great Great Grandparents. Can you share anything about the Pereira being an old
family in Candelaria ? I looked for info but didn't find much. Do you know when
the first Pereiras went to Candelaria ? Even if you are an 8th cousin once
removed I find that interesting to know. How are we related and through whom ?

John,   Do you have any information on my Grandmother Virginia Amelia Pereira
and/ or her brother Antonio Araujo Pereira or other siblings. How did you find
this information ? My Dad said his Grandmother's name was Pulcina and in Aunt
Theresa's obit they spell her name Polcana? Thank you so much for the
information. Are you related to my Pereira relatives ?            George

The record says Theresa was born at 1PM on the 23rd and baptized on the 24th
Jan 1884. Daughter of Jose de Araujo Pereira, of candelaria, and Polucena dos
Anjos, of Rosario da Lagoa, married in and residents of Candelaria, paternal
granddaughter of Antonio Jose de Araujo of Candelaria and Vitoria Tomasia of
Ginetes and maternal granddaughter of Manuel Correia Soares and Antonia
Jacinta, all of Rosario da Lagoa. The Ginetes and Candelaria lines go back to
the first settlers of the island.
I hope this helps.

Theresa (Pereira) Pignatelli.....Virginia Pereira Medeiros sister and our Great
and Great Great Aunt

Mrs. Pignatelli

Mrs. Theresa Pignatelli , 86, of Beakhurst House on Coggeshall Avenue, died
there today after a long illness. She has lived in Newport for 50 years.
Mrs. Pignatelli was born  Jan. 23, 1884 in Candelasia, St. Michael, the
Azores,
a daughter of  Jose and Polcana [ Pulcina] De- Araujs[ it is spelled Araujo]
Pereira. She leaves her husband , Leonardo Pignatelli; a brother, Antonio
DeAraujs [ De Araujo] Pereira of the Azores; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Medeiros
of Newport; seven daughters,

Lorin Castro [ Hilda Castro], Mrs. Frank Silvia [ Theresa Silvia], all of

Augustine's Church for a solemn requiem mass at 10 a.m.Burial will be in St.
Columba's Cemetery.

Note:  Vovo Virginia died on Feb. 26, 1971 so Great Aunt Theresa died some year
earlier than 1971. The copy my parents kept  didn't have date on it.Also I am
not sure why they didn't list names of our female cousins so I listed them in
obit. I am not sure why they listed our great and great great Grandmother's
name as Polcana instead of Pulcina. Also why they wrote DeAraujs instead of De
Araujo which is the maiden name of Jose Pereira 's
mother who's generation I have no information on because that would be back in
records
In the Azores. We need someone who speaks Portuguese to help us with that
information or if any of you know another way let me know. I am planning to
start going to local genealogical society to see if they can give me help .--
