Sam,

I think it depends on the location. Many auction off some of the Portuguese
sweets, pastries, and sweet bread. I've seen wine and other adult
beverages. I've seen birds, quilts, and other handmade items. Some that are
more rural will auction off a calf or other farm animals. It may be
different in different locations, too.
