Since you have an uncle in Ponta Delgada, AND you have an exact name and date
of birth for your grandfather, and the names of his parents, why not have your
uncle go either to the S. Pedro Church or the Registo Civil, and obtain a birth
record for your grandfather? It will contain the name of his parents AND his
grandparents. Good luck.
