Joy, I don't know what you mean by the register at birth. The Azores uses baptismal records. There are a few nascimentos for non-Catholics. Those are online too. Maybe you should provide a link to this document that you speak of so we can see what you are talking about, as you are not giving us all the information.
Yes, your researcher translated it wrong. There's no such place as Lagoas anywhere in the Azores. When you get "there?" There as in where? The Azores? I don't know what island you are going to. That question was never answered, so I can't provide any type of advice.
