Bill, the large "C" in many records is something that is peculiar to some Priest's handwriting. I see it a lot in Norte Grande, Sao Jorge when writing the dates. Sometimes the "C" is almost as big as the "T" in the word and it's easy to mistake the date if you don't know which decade that you are searching!
